2024 ITF Masters World Team Championships (30-40) in Portugal: Preview
With more than twelve months having passed since the last edition of the ITF Masters World Team Championships for those aged 30 through to 40+, the World Championships return to Portugal for the third consecutive year and for the fourth time since 2019. In 2024 the World Team Championships will be held across three venues in Lisbon: CDN Jamor, Club Internacional de Foot-Ball (CIF), and Clube Escola de Ténis (CETO).
The 2024 team event, which gets underway on Sunday 4 August, will see more than 380 players representing 34 nations, with a total of 101 teams competing to earn the World Championships title. Teams from every continent will take to the courts, with 11 new teams in the 30+ events, including Costa Rica, Estonia, Peru, Japan, and Turkmenistan, thus demonstrating the increasing global reach of the World Championships in the younger age groups. You can view all the participating teams here.
An array of former and current ATP and WTA players will be on show in Lisbon, including a star-studded M35 Portugal team. The hosts will boast former world No. 99 Pedro Sousa, as well as Masters stalwart Fred Gil, who reached a career-high of No. 62 in the world.
In the Women’s 30 Cup (30+) and the Young Cup (40+), defending champions Germany return with strong teams to defend their titles. Italy, meanwhile, will seek to keep hold of the Suzanne Lenglen Cup (35+), in which they defeated France in the 2023 competition in Turkiye.
On the men’s side, Italy will hope to repeat last year’s triumph in both the Italia Cup (35+) and the Tony Trabert Cup (40+). The Italians secured wins over strong teams from Germany and France to achieve victory. Germany secured a big win over the USA in the inaugural Men’s 30 Cup in 2023, and will be looking to maintain their champion status by striving for another gold in this year’s competition.
The ITF Masters 30, 35 & 40 World Individual Championships will be held the following week, from 11-17 August. This event will showcase many top players from the team competitions, as well as other highly ranked competitors, all competing for their individual titles.
Each day there will be a live stream from both the ITF Masters World Team and Individual Championships.
