Adams scoops Tennis Black List's International Trailblazer Award
Katrina Adams, an ITF Vice President who also chairs the ITF’s Billie Jean King Cup and Advantage All committees, received the International Trailblazer Award – one of eight categories – at the inaugural Tennis Black List.
Founded this year by Richard Sackey-Addo of the International Tennis Integrity Agency and sports broadcaster Anne-Marie Batson, the Tennis Black List celebrates the contribution of the black community within tennis.
The Tennis Black List follows the example set by the Football Black List and Rugby Black List, which recognise and champion the inspiring contribution of black people within their respective sports.
Adams, who is also the former President of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), accepted the International Trailblazer Award, which is given to the person or persons whose leadership has had an extraordinary impact on tennis.
“I am thrilled by this recognition from the Tennis Black List,” said Adams. “Receiving this award means everything to me as does knowing that I am appreciated for all the work I do.”
Among the other award winners were Guardian tennis writer Tumaini Carayol and Eurosport commentator Yasmin Clarke, who scooped the Media Award as journalism excellence was celebrated.
Current players Heather Watson and Paul Jubb received the Players Award in recognition of their contributions to tennis on and off court, while former world No. 1 Venus Williams collected the Icon Award.
Junior players Ranah Stoiber and Matthias Ruggles, meanwhile, won the Rising Star Award.
