Bandar Seri Begawan: Putting Brunei on the ITF Masters Tennis Calendar
Running from 8-11 August 2024, MT100 Bandar Seri Begawan is an exciting new event which will mark Brunei Darussalam’s debut on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour calendar.
The event will be played on outdoor hard courts at Brunei Darussalam's National Tennis Centre, which provides a beautiful setting for the tournament which will host singles and doubles events for the 35, 40 and 45+ age groups for both men and women.
The Brunei Darussalam Tennis Association (BDTA) “looks forward to participation not just from local players but also from regional neighbours on Borneo Island” with preparations for the tournament “supported by executive committee members and the larger tennis community from across the country”.
Sufferizal Murzuki of the Brunei Darussalam Tennis Association highlights "Brunei’s unique position in the centre of Southeast Asia is a hidden escape."
This will make the tournament "an experience of serenity away from the hustle and bustle”.
2024 is proving an exciting year for Asia on the Tour with various nations either joining or returning to the calendar. Japan will host the ITF Masters 45+ World Team and Individual Championships later this year – the first time that an ITF Masters World Championships will be held in Asia.
In addition, the ITF recently announced a renewed partnership with the 2025 World Masters Games, which will be held in Taipei and New Taipei City providing an exciting opportunity for the Tour to continue to grow in Asia and increase participation.
