As the excitement builds for the upcoming Beach Tennis World Cup 2023, set to unfold at the Parque Praia do Sol in São Paolo, Brazil, anticipation continues to mount for this exhilarating culmination of the beach tennis season. Promising a captivating spectacle with its dynamic and fast-paced gameplay, the event is set to enthral audiences.

Beach Tennis is rapidly emerging as the premier beach sport for professional and junior athletes worldwide. Anticipating the fervour surrounding this event, we take a dive into the world of beach tennis, shedding light on the unique rules and dynamics that make this sport a growing sensation.

How to play Beach Tennis

The court, resembling a beach volleyball court, spans 16 meters in length and 8 metres in width. The net stands at 1.8 meters for men and 1.7 meters for women. Players wield paddle bats without strings, engaging with Stage 2 (low compression “orange”) balls. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has been at the forefront of experimenting with different equipment types, ensuring the evolution of the sport.

Scoring adopts the familiar system of regular tennis, incorporating a permanent no-advantage rule after Deuce. Notably, there is no second service and no service let. The introduction of a 10-point match tiebreak in the third set in 2020 added an extra layer of excitement to the game.

Primarily a doubles game, though singles can be played on a narrower court (4.5 meters), beach tennis allows both underarm and overarm serves. Points are earned if the ball hits the ground in the opposing court or if opponents hit (or serve) the ball out or into the net.

The Beach Tennis World Cup: The countdown begins

Formerly known as the Beach Tennis World Team Championship, the Beach Tennis World Cup is a mixed competition where nations compete as teams.
