De la Puente, Caverzaschi and Siscar to represent Spain at Paris 2024

Wimbledon finalist Martin de la Puente, Dani Caverzaschi and Enrique Siscar will compete at Paris 2024 after being named in Spain's team for the Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis Event.

De la Puente was a man of a mission at The Championships, Wimbledon where he reached his maiden Grand Slam singles final only to succumb to home favourite Alfie Hewett.

The 25-year-old, who is ranked No. 4 in the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour Rankings, will spearhead the Spanish team in what will be his third Paralympic Games having also featured at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

De la Puente reached the round of 16 in the men’s singles in Tokyo, bettering his performance at Rio 2016 where he made the second round. He and Caverzaschi joined forces to reach the men’s doubles quarter-finals at both Games.

For Caverzaschi, Paris 2024 will be a fourth Paralympic Games after making his Paralympic debut at London 2012. His performances have steadily improved and in Tokyo he reached the men’s singles quarter-finals.

Caverzaschi made history in Tokyo by becoming the first Spaniard to reach a singles quarter-final at a Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis Event, although not long after a wrist injury threatened his career.

Thankfully, Madrid-born Caverzaschi is back on court. In a UNIQLO Interview for the ITF in May, Caverzaschi outlined his ambitions for the coming weeks and months as he bids to replicate his 2021 form.

“I’m not really thinking that much of Paris, but I don’t want to respond like a politician,” said Caverzaschi, who was part of the Spain team that reached the men's final at the 2024 BNP World Team Cup in May.

“I am going to do as I do in any tournament and try to win. Of course, I am also realistic that I am going to be an underdog as there are several players above me.

“I am very happy to be back on Tour and playing well. I want to continue to up my level and I want to take the next step and get back into the Top 10, then we can see where things go from there.”

The final member of the Spain team is Enrique Siscar, who will be bidding to record his first match-win at a Paralympic Games having lost in the first round in both singles and doubles at Tokyo 2020.
