Paquet, Doi and Zanevska win W80 titles on ITF World Tennis Tour
Chloe Paquet climbed to a career-high No. 126 in the WTA rankings on Monday after winning the biggest title of her career on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W80 Poitiers.
The 27-year-old Frenchwoman picked up a fourth title of 2021 after defeating 20-year-old Swiss Simona Waltert 6-4 6-3 in the title match in West France.
Paquet’s first title at W80 level improved her winning streak to 10 matches and follows her triumph at W25 Netanya in Israel the previous week. Paquet also won two W25 titles in July - in Wroclaw and Kyiv – in what were her first tournament triumphs in almost three years.
Maryna Zanevska and Misaki Doi also won ITF tournaments at W80 level last week, with Zanevska overcoming another Swiss, Ylena In-Albon, 7-6(5) 6-4 to take the title on Spanish soil in Les Franqueses del Valles and Doi overcoming Britain’s Harriet Dart to win at W80 Tyler in the USA.
Doi’s victory was her first singles title since she won the WTA 125k title in Bastad in 2019 and sees the 30-year-old return to the Top 100, at No. 98, having dropping out of that elite group in early September.
Zanevska, who won her first WTA Tour event at the Poland Open in July, collected her third singles title of the year and first hard court triumph since she won a $60k ITF tournament in Zhuhai in 2018.
This weekend also saw W25 tournament wins for Mirjam Bjorklund, Laura Pigossi, Lina Glushko, Nigina Abduraimova and Eva Lys, while three players also won titles at W15 level: Julia Riera, Kathleen Kanev and Zhuoxuan Bai.
Bai, the 18-year-old former junior world No. 9, won her third title in as many weeks at W15 Sharm El Sheikh, improving her winning streak to 15 straight matches.
