Jannik Sinner scaled new heights in 2023 and admits that leading Italy to the Davis Cup title for the first time since 1976 has fuelled his excitement for the Paris 2024 Olympic Tennis Event.

Sinner won all five of his matches – and beat Novak Djokovic in both singles and doubles – to help the Italians to a glorious team triumph at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, and the 22-year-old admits he now truly knows what it means to play – and triumph – for his country.

“Before the Davis Cup I couldn’t imagine how big of a deal this was. After [we won it], you realise how important Davis Cup is,” Sinner said.

“For sure I always played for Italy because I love to play for it, I love to represent, hopefully in the right way, the Italian flag, but until you really win it or go [deep] into the competition of Davis Cup it’s tough to understand how important it is.

“It was really, really nice to be part of this. I’m happy I gave my amount of winning percentage for the team.”

Off the back of that triumph under the Italian flag, Sinner says making his Olympic debut in Paris is a significant priority in 2024.

“I’m looking forward to the Olympics," he revealed. "Obviously you play for yourself but also for Italy… so, it’s going to be fun.”

The Olympic Tennis Event takes place at Roland Garros on 27 July – 4 August. The full list of entries for the event will be announced by 8 July.
