Liv Hovde of the United States has enjoyed a fabulous season. The 16 -year-old won her first title of 2022 at J1 San Diego in March before reaching the final of Trofeo Bonfiglio – the prestigious Grade A event in Milan – although the best was yet to come.

Hovde thrived during the grass-court season and conquered all before her at J1 Roehampton before a week later topping the podium at Wimbledon after being crowned SW19 girls’ champion. It’s time to get to know Liv a little better.

Who was your tennis idol growing up? 

Roger Federer

What was your first tennis memory?

I remember running around and hitting balls on a clay court in Minnesota

What has been the favourite match you have been involved in? 

This year’s Wimbledon girls’ final, for sure

Who has been your toughest opponent?

Canada’s Kayla Cross. We’ve had some great battles

What is your favourite Grand Slam and why? 

Wimbledon. I love playing on the grass and it’s so beautiful

What are your ambitions for the rest of 2022?

To continue to improve and have fun on the journey

What is the best advice you have received? 

From my dad: have fun, try your best and be a good sport

Do you have any superstitions?

No

Golf

Tiger Woods

Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My mum

Austin Butler. He was the lead actor in Elvis, and it would be fun to talk with him

A light pink Porsche

What do you like to get up to when you’re not playing tennis? 

I love to go to a nice restaurant and shop with my friends

What annoys you most and why?

Ketchup on potatoes because it’s disgusting

I like pop music and my favourite song Bad Habit by Steve Lacy
