Gibson grabs new career-high after W75 Perth triumph

16 Sep 2024

Australian Talia Gibson climbed 22 spots to a career-high No. 143 in the WTA rankings after clinching her first title of the year on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W75 Perth.

The 20-year-old won her hometown title after beating fellow Perth native Maddison Inglis 6-7(5) 6-1 6-3 in a two-hour and 43-minute final.

“It was a really tough match,” Gibson told Tennis Australia. “[It] is always a tough battle playing Maddy.

“Sticking to my game and playing aggressively worked for me, obviously it was tough out there with the wind … but I really tried to stick to my strengths, and it came off well.”

Gibson has now won six singles titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour with this her second at the $60,000 prize money level, following her triumph at W60 Gold Coast in 2023.

Gibson’s perfect week extended to the doubles as she and Inglis combined to win their first professional title as a team. It was Gibson’s ninth ITF doubles title overall and fifth at the $60,000 prize money level.

Frenchwoman Tessah Andrianjafitrimo was also a champion at W75 level this weekend, winning the biggest title of her career at W75 Le Neubourg.

The 25-year-old defeated compatriot Manon Leonard 6-2 6-4 in the final for her eighth ITF singles title overall and first in over two and a half years.
