Henrik Thorsøe Pedersen elected Tennis Europe president
Henrik Thorsøe Pedersen has been elected as President of the European Tennis Federation (Tennis Europe) at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in Portoroz, Slovenia.
Pederson, who will be the first Tennis Europe President from a Nordic country, said that he intended to encourage dialogue, collaboration and unity.
“I am greatly looking forward to getting started with the Tennis Europe staff and my new colleagues on the Board of Management, who truly reflect the unique diversity of the Tennis Europe nations,” he said.
Pederson will be joined on the new Board by three re-elected members (*), but more notably four women and four men - restoring gender parity to the tennis Europe Board.
Florence Alix-Gravellier (FRA)*, Nikolina Babic (CRO)*, Milos Karadzic (MNE), Avraham Perets (ISR), Sandi Procter (GBR), Raimondo Ricci Bitti (ITA), Csilla Suto (HUN) and Cem Tinaz (TUR)* form the new Board of Management and will serve a four-year term until 2028.
This is the first term that had guaranteed a minimum of two female board members, following Constitutional reforms by Tennis Europe, and in support of the ITF Advantage All programme.
The AGM – a four-day event, hosted by Tenis Slovenija, included a ‘Sports Change the World’ Conference, in which Slovenian players Aljaž Bedene and Katarina Srebotnik, former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic and ATP Board Member Herwig Straka were among the keynote speakers.
Meanwhile, ITF President David Haggerty and CEO Kelly Fairweather presented an update on ITF Strategy, Major Events, Paris 2024 and the ITF Digital Strategy.
The ITF also presented awards for Excellence in Tennis Development to the following five nations in recognition of their successes over the past 12 months: Ukrainian Tennis Federation (Education), Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Tennis (Events), Kosovo Tennis Federation (Participation), Bulgarian Tennis Federation (Performance), Icelandic Tennis Association (Performance).
The 2024 Tennis Europe AGM will be hosted by the Turkish Tennis Federation in Antalya.
