'I'm so proud': Eala wins biggest ITF crown yet
Alexandra Eala took a significant forward stride on the ITF World Tennis Tour this weekend after winning both the singles and doubles titles on Spanish soil at W100 Vitoria – Gasteiz.
The 19-year-old from the Philippines, who had previously won four professional titles but none above the entry level W25 tournament grade – was a picture of emotion after completing a milestone week with a 6-4 6-4 triumph over fellow rising star Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.
“This win means the world to me, it even made me ugly cry,” she posted on Instagram. “I am so proud because this represents the culmination of so much hard work. Securing my biggest titles yet in both singles and doubles is a fairytale finish, and I’m overwhelmed with emotion.
“This [tournament] will always have a special place in my heart, and I leave here with a pocket full of great memories and the will to work harder.”
Eala, the world No. 155, had also won the biggest doubles title of her career a day earlier – combining with Frenchwoman Estelle Cascino to beat Lia Karatancheva and Diana Marcinkevica.

Eala is a product of the ITF player pathway having reached No. 2 in the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Rankings and collecting some lofty junior titles in the process.
As well as two Junior Grand Slam doubles titles, Eala also won the girls’ singles title at the 2022 US Open and won some prestigious J500 events – in Cape Town in 2019 and Milan in 2021.
The left-hander has proceeded to make her mark within the professional ranks – only narrowly falling in the final round of qualifying at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon this summer – and now delivering a significant ITF singles title that will further boost her trajectory towards the higher levels of the sport.
Eala was joined in the ITF winner’s circle this week by Maja Chwalinska, who extended her winning streak to 10 after following her W75 Montpellier triumph with victory at W75 Porto this weekend, and Britain’s Heather Watson, who claimed her first professional title in over four years with victory at W50 Nottingham.
