ITF Seniors Strategic Plans & Circuit Development

This page includes information to support the mission of the ITF in developing initiatives and improvements that will be introduced in 2021 to help facilitate an increase in player and tournament numbers from 2021 and beyond.

The ITF Seniors Circuit is a steadily growing, global tournament circuit providing competitive opportunities for players aged 30 and over. The following helps demonstrate the growth during the history of the circuit:

1992 – 84 tournaments took place

2002 – 150 tournaments took place

2012 – 281 tournaments took place

2019 – 502 tournaments took place in 73 nations

The ITF Seniors Committee, with the support of the ITF Seniors Department, are focussed on the delivery and development of the circuit. The mission of the ITF is to make Seniors Tennis the leading competitive sport in terms of participation for those aged 30 and over.

The Seniors Committee regularly consult with the ITF Player Advisory Panel and ITF Seniors Tournament Director & Referee Panel who exist to provide insights to support decisions. You can read more detail on the advisory panels here.  

In January 2019, the ITF released the 2019-2021 Strategic Plan for Seniors Tennis. This plan supports the mission of the ITF in developing initiatives and improvements that will be introduced in 2019, 2020 and 2021 to help facilitate an increase in player and tournament numbers up to 2021 and beyond. An extension of this plan shall be released in 2021 as part of the ITF’s Strategic Planning up to 2024.

In October 2019, the ITF released an update providing further detail. This communication provided greater detail of changes applied to the 2020 ITF Seniors Circuit

In June 2020, the ITF released details of changes that will be applied to the 2021 ITF Seniors Circuit. This includes details on the new tournament structure and ranking points tables.
