ITF Statement: Cancellation of 2023 ANOC World Beach Games

“Today, July 4, the ITF received a letter from the ANOC President and General Secretary Beach Games notifying us of a decision to cancel the ANOC World Beach Games (AWBG) in Bali, Indonesia, with only 4 weeks to go. We received no prior warning and, until last week, we had been assured that the preparations for the Games were underway. This is extremely disappointing news for the players and for all those who have been involved in preparing for this event. We have informed players and key stakeholders while we seek further clarity of the circumstances which led to this unfortunate cancellation.

“The ITF has been supportive of the concept of AWBG since inception and believes in its potential following the exciting inaugural event in Doha 2019. It is not clear at this stage what the impact of this decision will be regarding future editions. The ITF will engage constructively with all stakeholders regarding the future of this important event for the growth of Beach Tennis.”
