Oceane Dodin has been named ITF World Tennis Tour Player of the Month for January following a flying start to the season.

The 26-year-old Frenchwoman won two titles, including her most significant in over six years, and reeled off 13 victories in the 14 matches she contested through the opening month of the year.

Dodin, a powerful ball-striker with a rangy six-foot frame, recorded tournament victories at W25 Monastir and W60 Andreziuex-Boutheon, either side of a semi-final finish at W40 Monastir, to put her on the cusp of a return to the world’s Top 100.

While still 63 places shy of the career-best ranking of No. 46 she achieved in June 2017, the signs are promising for the now-world No. 109, who has proved more than capable of mixing it with the best in the past.

She has two top 20 wins to her name (having beaten Dominika Cibulkova in Madrid in 2017, and Johanna Konta in St. Petersburg in 2020), and though world No. 147 Daria Snigur was the highest-ranked opponent she faced this month, Dodin appears to have rediscovered the winning feeling after several tumultuous years plagued by indifferent form and injury.

Dodin’s triumph over Kristina Dmitruk at W25 Monastir secured her first singles title in 14 months, while her victory – over compatriot Audrey Albie - on home soil at W60 Andreziuex-Boutheon earned her silverware above W25 level for the first time since October 2016, when she sparked her rise towards the world’s top 50 by ruling the field at W100 Poitiers.

Whether her recent efforts can propel Dodin back into the WTA’s elite group remains to be seen, but one thing for sure this month - she’s riding a wave.
