J2 Bytom upgraded to J1 status for 2021
For juniors wishing to follow in the footsteps of Switzerland's Dominic Stricker and Elsa Jacquemot of France and claim their maiden Junior Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, preparation may well prove key.
Following the postponement of J1 Charleroi-Marcinelle, J2 Bytom has been upgraded and awarded J1 status for 2021 only and will act as a warm-up event for the Roland Garros Junior Championships.
This year's Junior Grand Slam in the French capital will take place from 6-12 June, with J1 Bytom in Poland being held the week before, from 1-5 June.
The Roland Garros Junior Championships have this year returned to a more customary slot in the tennis calendar, having been contested in October during 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Stricker clinched the boys' title after prevailing from an all-Swiss final with Leandro Riedi, while Jacquemot became the first French girl to triumph on home soil since Kristina Mladenovic in 2009. Jacquemot defeated Russia's Alina Charaeva in the final.
