Kessler on the cusp of double digit ranking after W100 Landisville win

12 Aug 2024

McCartney Kessler moved within touching distance of a double digit WTA ranking for the first time after claiming her third title of the year at W100 Landisville.

The 25-year-old American defeated Australian Olivia Gadecki 4-6 6-2 6-4 in her third professional singles final of the year, and second on the ITF World Tennis Tour, to leap 10 spots to a career-high No. 100 in the world.

Kessler has been in fine form this year, winning titles at W75 Rome and WTA 125 Puerto Vallarta ahead of her latest triumph this weekend.

It has been a remarkable rise to the Top 100 for a player who began the 2023 season at No. 945 in the WTA rankings.

Kessler first competed on the ITF World Tennis Tour in 2016 but followed in the footsteps of both her parents, Carl and Julie, and brother McClain in playing college tennis in Florida, spending five seasons in action for the Florida Gators.

Kessler was joined in the winner's circle by Spaniard Lucia Cortez Llorca, 24, who collected the first title of her career on Polish clay at W50 Bytom after a turnaround triumph against 18-year-old Serb Mia Ristic, winning 0-6 6-4 7-5.

Nineteen-year-old Italian Giorgia Pedone also won at W50 level, securing her second professional singles title - and the biggest of her career - at W50 Zagreb after defeating Elena Pridankina 2-6 6-2 7-5.
