Gonzalo Lama made an emphatic return to the winner’s circle on the ITF World Tennis Tour at M15 Cario on Sunday, ending a five-year wait for silverware.

The 27-year-old Chilean came through qualifying and cruised to his 11th professional singles title without dropping a set in any of his eight matches, culminating in a 6-0 6-0 triumph over American Nicolas Moreno de Alboran in the title decider.

The triumph was Lama’s first since 2016, when he won an ATP Challenger title in Sao Paulo. All 11 of Lama’s career singles titles have come on clay – including nine at ITF level and two at ATP Challengers.

His success last week saw him record back-to-back match-wins in the main draw of an ITF tournament for the first time since he reached the semi-finals at M25 Klosters in September, when he fell to eventual champion Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune.

Lama, the current world No. 734, ranked as high as No. 160 in the world in 2016, and has made eight appearances for Chile in Davis Cup by Rakuten, compiling a 9-3 overall win-loss record.

The only other men’s event on the ITF World Tennis Tour last week – M15 Antalya – has been delayed at the quarter-final stage after persistent rain hampered the tournament’s progress.

Italian Rauel Brancaccio and Portugal’s Nuno Borges are the only two seeds through to the last eight. Follow the latest results here.
