While Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Matteo Berrettini impressed at Roland Garros, Edoardo Lavagno continued the theme of youthful Italian success over the weekend – albeit in the face of rather less attention on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

The 22-year-old won his second title in as many weeks as a qualifier at M15 Shymkent, defeating Russian Yan Bondarevskiy in the title match a week after claiming his first career title at the same venue.

Lavagno went one step further than his compatriot Federico Arnaboldi, 20, who narrowly missed out on his maiden ITF singles crown after falling to Israeli Ben Patael in the final at M15 Heraklion.

Patel’s win was his fifth ITF singles tournament victory, and his second outside Israel.

Elsewhere, Matias Zukas won his first title on the ITF World Tennis Tour in almost two years after winning at M15 Novomoskovsk.

The 25-year-old Argentine defeated home favourite Danylo Kalenichenko 6-4 0-6 6-4 for his first triumph since August 2019 – his eighth ITF title in all.

It was a good week for Argentine men, with Hernan Casanova, at M15 Sarajevo, and Nicolas Kicker, at M25 Santo Domingo, also collecting titles.

American Nicolas Moreno De Alboran, 23, won his first ITF singles title (to add to his four doubles crowns) at M15 Antalya, two weeks after falling in the final at the same venue.

There were also wins for two French men, Alexis Gautier and Kyrian Jacquet, who won at M15 Skopje and M15 Helsinki, respectively, with 20-year-old Jacquet’s triumph his first at professional level.

Twenty-year-old Yanki Erel, who is up to a career-high No. 623 in the world, completed the list of men’s winners, claiming his third title of the year at M15 Monastir.

Erel was a strong junior, winning seven junior singles titles and reaching a career-high No. 16 in the boys’ rankings in 2018.
