The 2024 ITF Beach Tennis World Championships returns to the home of the sport – the Emilia-Romagna region, for the second consecutive year. With a total prize fund of $50,000, coveted trophies and all its glory, this event stands as the pinnacle of the Beach Tennis Calendar.

The top-seeded players have dedicated the last three weeks since the Saarlouis Sand Series in Germany to relentless training in preparation for the fierce battle on the sands, unfolding over the next week in the sunny, seaside town of Cesenatico.

However, the pursuit of the championship trophy is not the only motivation for these elite players. With the ITF Beach Tennis World Championships offering a substantial 1000 ITF ranking points for the winners, the competition could cause some serious waves across the ranking table.

For No. 1 Women’s seeds, and reigning Beach Tennis World Champions, Patricia Diaz and Rafaella Miller the stakes have never been higher. A mere 120 points separate them from their closest rivals, the Brazilian duo Sophie Chow and Vitoria Marchezini, who are riding high after winning two Sand Series titles this year. An early exit for Diaz and Miller could allow Chow and Marchezini to claim the top spot in the rankings. The duo will be aiming to become the second all-Brazilian women’s team to win the ITF Beach Tennis World Championships title, following in the footsteps of Joana Cortex and Rafaella Miller in 2016.

Fifth seeds and two-time defending champions (201,2002), Valentini and Gasparri, are back to contend for their third title. Despite a strong season, including a victory at the Sand Series Brasilia in June, Valentini’s recent injury, which forced them to withdraw from the Saarlouis Sand Series three weeks ago, could pose a significant challenge. Their first-round opponents are the 2019 World Champions, Maraike Biglmaier and Margarete Pelster, making for a highly anticipated clash.

Michele Cappelletti (ITA), a local hero with a record five ITF Beach Tennis World Championship titles, will have the home crowd’s full support as he chases his sixth trophy. With only 118 points separating him from current World No.1 duo, Mattia Spoto (ITA) and Nicolas Gianotti (FRA), Cappelletti is determined to reclaim the top spot in the Beach Tennis rankings. Cappelletti and his partner, Baran (BRA), will face the young Italian duo Elia Emanuela Ammendola (21) and Ricardo Manenti (23), who have earned a wild card entry into the main draw.

Three-time World Champion (2012, 2013, 2014) Marco Garavini (ITA) and his former World No.1 partner, Luca Cramarossa (ITA), will go head-to-head with Felipe Lock (BRA) and Luca Andreolini (ITA). Loch and Andreolini caused a stir earlier this year by defeating Spoto and Gianotti in the BT400 Petrolina final. The first-round match is sure to captivate the Italian fans, who will be out in full force to support their local champions.
