Sweden’s Dragos Nicolae Madaras continued his prolific campaign on the ITF World Tennis Tour by topping the podium for a staggering eighth time at M25 Varnamo – his first profesisonal title on home soil.

The 25-year-old’s triumph at M25 Varnamo represents the joint best title of his season and indeed career, having also conquered all before him at M25 Antalya in February. His other victories this season have all come at M15 level.

Madaras lifted his latest piece of silverware following victory over Oliver Crawford of the United States in the final, winning 7-6(4) 6-1, with only one of his five matches in Sweden requiring a third set.

The left-hander, who currently holds a career-high ATP ranking of No. 248 having started the year at No. 331, leads the ITF World Tennis Tour this season in terms of matches (53) and titles won.

He has previously stated that his intention this year is to break the record for the number of ITF titles in a single season, and he is currently just two shy of the record set by Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands during 2019.

Elsewhere on the ITF World Tennis Tour, France’s Clement Tabur claimed his second M25 title in the space of a month, this time prevailing at M25 Kursumlijska Banja. Spain’s Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo, meanwhile, won his first title of the campaign at M25 Valldoreix.
