Majchrzak resurrects career with ITF title on tour return
Kamil Majchrzak made a winning return to tennis on the ITF World Tennis Tour last week following a 13-month ban for a doping offence.
The former world No. 75 won eight matches on the bounce as a qualifier at M15 Monastir to collect his 13th professional singles title – his ninth at ITF level.
Majchrzak, 27, is seeking to resurrect his career after completing a ban issued by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), who accepted he “had not knowingly or intentionally” committed an offence after consuming an isotonic drink containing three prohibited substances.
He was free to return on the 29 December and instantly began to make up for lost time in ITF competition.
A former junior world No. 7, Majchrzak won boys’ singles gold at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics and went on to make his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, before climbing to a career-high ATP ranking of No. 75 in February 2022.
The Pole was one of three men to win singles titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour this weekend along with Ukraine’s Oleg Prihodko, at M15 Kish Island, and Great Britain’s Jacob Fearnley, at M25 Esch/Alzette in Luxembourg.
Fearnley recorded seven straight match-wins – including against former US Open junior champion Jonas Forejtek in the final – to claim his second career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
“It means a lot. It’s not easy to win tournaments, especially coming from qualifying and obviously it helps having the ranking points,” said the world No. 646.
Fearnley, 22, will play another ITF event in Loughborough this week before heading back to Texas for one more season of college tennis at Texas Christian University, before tackling professional tennis full-time.
