Meet the ITF World Tennis Tour Player Panel: Conny Perrin
Last month, the ITF announced the players elected to the newly-created ITF World Tennis Tour Player Panel. The members will sit on the Panel until the end of the 2021 season and for two-year terms thereafter.
We spoke to all the players on both the men's tennis and women's tennis panels, to find out about their tennis careers to date and their hopes for what they can achieve during their time as panel members. Over the coming two weeks we will introduce each panel member and hear their stories.
Today we spoke to Conny Perrin, a 29-year-old player from Switzerland. Perrin has won 12 singles titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour and competed in qualifying at all four Grand Slam events. She reached a career-high WTA ranking of No. 134 in October 2018 and made her Fed Cup debut for Switzerland in their World Group play-off tie against USA last year. Here's what she had to say...
***
I started playing at the age of seven, and did all my education in Switzerland while playing tennis as a junior. Afterwards I started out on the professional tour mostly by traveling alone and as a self-funded player from the day I started on the pro tour until today. I have played on both the WTA and ITF tours and have competed all over the world, from tournaments in places like India, South America and Nigeria, to all the Grand Slams several times.
The best moment of my career was playing Fed Cup in 2019 with Switzerland against the USA. Roland Garros is always a special feeling and has been my favourite tournament since I was a kid. I just enjoy the whole process of being able to do what I love, tennis has given me so much and just always want to find ways to challenge and better myself as a person as well as an athlete.
I saw the ITF World Tennis Tour player panel as a fresh start and a chance for the Tour in general to feel more united. I’m passionate, curious and open to learn together with the ITF Board. I would like to have a voice as an experienced ITF player and I feel I can add valuable global life and tennis experience to the role.
I hope to create a good bond between the players and the ITF board, more unity, integrity with all the governing bodies to look for progress and on the possibility to restructure certain things by finding common decisions.
