Meet the ITF World Tennis Tour Player Panel: Tara Moore
Last month, the ITF announced the players elected to the newly-created ITF World Tennis Tour Player Panel. The members will sit on the Panel until the end of the 2021 season and for two-year terms thereafter.
We spoke to all the players on both the men's tennis and women's tennis panels, to find out about their tennis careers to date and their hopes for what they can achieve during their time as panel members. On the women's tennis panel we have already spoken Conny Perrin, Olivia Tjandramulia, Petra Januskova, Yuliana Lizarazo and Ines Ibbou.
Today, we hear from Tara Moore, a 27-year-old player from Great Britain. Moore has competed on the professional tour since 2006, reaching career-high WTA rankings of No. 145 in singles and No. 151 in doubles. She has won nine singles and 13 doubles titles on the ITF women's circuit, and also enjoyed success at WTA Tour-level, reaching the quarterfinals in singles at Nottingham and the final in doubles at Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Here's what she had to say...
***
I started tennis at the age of seven and trained at IMG academies in Florida until I was 17. I started playing on the ITF Junior Circuit when I was 13 and slowly made the progression onto the Pro tour. I’ve represented Great Britain in Fed Cup and reached a career-high ranking of No. 145 in singles.
I have had a lot of great moments in my career, but the stand-out moment so far would have to be qualifying and making the quarterfinals in front of a home crowd at the WTA event in Nottingham in 2016.
I decided to run for the ITF World Tennis Tour Player Panel, because I believe my more than 12 years of experience on tour and the relationships I have formed with many players over the years have helped me better understand where the ITF World Tennis Tour can improve. I hope to bridge the communication gap between the ITF and the players, and I believe I can give the players a much- needed platform to garner change.
Communication helps players feel understood and valued, especially in the current circumstances. I believe with the creation of the Players Panel it will be much easier for players to be heard and is a big first step forward. We can all make a positive change together and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
