Having highlighted Dutch youngster Thijs Boogaard earlier this month, it is time to focus upon another junior player enjoying a blistering start to 2023. Step forward, Jagger Leach. Here is some key information about the enterprising 15 -year-old.
- The headline rather gives it away but Jagger Leach is the son of former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport, who claimed six Grand Slam titles across singles and doubles and an Olympic gold medal during a stunning playing career.
- Leach has played 15 matches this season and won them all, dropping just one set in the process. This has seen him top the podium at three ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors events this season – J60 Christchurch, J60 Wellington and J100 Auckland.
- His victory at J60 Christchurch in mid-January was the teenager’s maiden ITF title of his career, while he started that week ranked No. 444 in the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Rankings. He now sits at No. 188.
- Leach heads the leaderboard for ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors titles in 2023. No other player has lifted silverware on three occasions this season, although a flurry of players are hot on his heels with two titles to their name.
- Leach has chalked up the most match-wins of any boy on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors this season. His tally of 15 sits joint-second on the overall list of match-wins by a junior player this season, with Morocco’s Aya El Aouni posting 16 and Nisan Can of Türkiye returning 15 also.
