Mrva's milestone moment: Czech teen secures first pro title

24 Sep 2024

A milestone in the development of any emerging young tennis player is the moment they capture their first professional singles title.

For 17-year-old Czech Maxim Mrva, that moment came this weekend on home clay courts at M15 Pardubice, where the junior star defeated Slovakia’s Milos Karol to claim his first men’s singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

Mrva went all the way to the title on his 13th appearance at an ITF men’s tournament, with his previous best showing a quarter-final run at M25 Prague 16 months ago.

Mrva is a promising talent, having climbed as high as No. 6 in the ITF junior rankings and won the boys' doubles title alongside Rei Sakamoto at this year's US Open.

He also led the Czechs to their first Junior Davis Cup title in six years at the end of 2023, winning both singles and doubles on the final day to lead his nation to glory over Italy.
