As one of only two MT700 level events in Asia in 2022, MT700 Pattaya is a significant tournament on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour calendar. Held in Pattaya, Thailand, on 19-25 November 2022, the Assetwise Tennis Masters Championship has built its reputation through excellent facilities, accommodation options, and strong entry numbers over recent years.

Tournament Director Daniel Rajsky has contributed significantly to the evolution of MT700 Pattaya. The ITF Masters Department caught up with the man himself to gain an insight into the activity behind-the-scenes in the run up to the event.

How many years have you been running the Pattaya ITF Masters event?

If I remember well, the first ITF Masters event where I was a Tournament Director was in 2012. Since then, I have been organising around 15 ITF tournaments in Thailand.

What is a typical day like for you during the event?

Nowadays, it is more about managing and coordinating. Over the years, we have built an experienced team who looks after all tournament-related matters.

What do you think about this year’s line-up?

I can see that Covid is finally behind us, and the number of entries clarifies it. But of course, as a Tournament Director, I will always strive for each year’s improvements as far as organisation and number and quality of entries.

When do you start preparing for the tournament?

The first step is the tournament application, which is usually sent 8-10 months before the tournament starts. Then as the tournament approaches, the preparations are ongoing.

What have you changed from last year to this year?

The main change is relaxed Covid regulations, and also we will be able to offer a Players’ Dinner and other activities during the tournament.

What makes Thailand a great place to come and play tennis?

Thailand is a world-class travel destination, and it is always nice to see other parts of the world while playing tennis. Not to mention the famous Thai hospitality and food!

How did you become interested in tennis? Do you play yourself?

Both my parents used to be tennis coaches, so I can say that I was born at a tennis club. Of course, I actively play Masters Tour events - my highest World Ranking was No. 5.
