New partnerships aplenty as Sand Series heads back to Saarlouis

The Sand Series goes back to where it all began later this month in Saarlouis, where the Series first started in 2021.

The growth of the event, and the Series, is reflected in a move from the town’s smaller ‘Klenier Markt’ to the main ‘Großer Markt’, bringing all Main Draw match courts to one site.

The German market town will see plenty of new partnerships after today’s Entry List was confirmed.

Former world No. 1 Michele Cappelletti will pair with André Baran for the first time, with the Italian hoping to defend his title in Germany and pick up his second Sand Series crown of the year after winning the Réunion Classic in March.

Baran has been one of the most in-form players of the season, taking five titles this year including doing the Brazilian Sand Series double in Ribeirão Preto and Brasília.

Antomi Ramos will also look to go back-to-back in Saarlouis and get his new  partnership with Tommaso Giovannini off to a winning start. The pair were on other sides of the net for a thrilling World Championship quarter-final earlier this year and the Italian was victorious at the inaugural edition in Saarlouis in 2021. Giovannini claimed his second Sand Series title in Gran Canaria this May in a thriller with Doriano Beccaccioli, who will be partnering with Nikita Burmakin at this event.

Meanwhile, Giulia Gasparri  and Sofia Cimatti continue their renewed partnership which has already reaped reward with a title-winning run at the last Sand Series in Pärnu, followed by a runner up finish at last week’s  BT400 St Georges de Didonne which was won by reigning World Champions Rafaella Miiller and Patricia Diaz. The latter pair are closing in on becoming world No. 1s for the first time as a pair with six titles as a pair this year including two Sand Series wins at the Sand Series Gran Canaria Classic and Brasília Classic.

Eva Fernandez Palos will be reuniting with Maraike Biglmaier in the German’s home tournament, with the pair hoping to go one better than their runner-up finish in a thrilling 2021 Sand Series Réunion final. Also looking to go one better will be World Championship finalists Ariadna Costa Graell and Elena Francesconi, with the pair backing up that performance with a championship-winning run at last month’s BT200 Seebad Ahlbeck.

The Main Draw action will get underway on Friday, 18 August, with live streaming of the quarter-finals on Play BT (Portuguese) and the ITF YouTube Channel (English) from Saturday, 19 August.
