Noskova eyes Top 100 after winning biggest title yet at W100 Versmold
Linda Noskova took another significant stride forward in her fledgling tennis career after claiming her biggest title yet on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W100 Versmold.
The 17-year-old Czech overcame Belgium’s Ysaline Bonaventure 6-1 6-3 in the final of the German tournament, increasing her career title tally to six and adding a maiden W100 title to her significant wins at W60 Croissy-Beaubourg in April and W60 Prerov last August.
She is the youngest player to win a W100 title on the ITF World Tennis Tour since Caty McNally won W100 Midland aged 17 years and 2 months in 2019, and is one of just six players in the last 15 years to claim a W100 title while aged 17 or under. McNally, Timea Bacsinszky, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Yulia Putintseva and Marketa Vondrousova are the only other players to achieve the feat since 2007.
Noskova moves in sight of the coveted Top 100 as a result of her efforts last week, leaping 29 places to a career-high No. 113 in the WTA rankings on Monday.
The talented teen made headlines this June when, aged 17 years and 186 days, she became the youngest player to qualify for Roland Garros since 2006, pushing Emma Raducanu close in an entertaining first round clash before the US Open champion prevailed 6-7(4) 7-5 6-1.
Noskova’s run to the main draw in Paris came 12 months after she won the 2021 Roland Garros girls’ singles crown, bringing the curtain down on a hugely promising junior career that saw her climb to No. 5 in the world.
Dutchwoman Arianne Hartono also enjoyed a maiden W100 triumph in Versmold, winning the doubles title alongside doubles world No. 22 Anna Danilina.
