Linda Noskova underlined her credentials as the latest Czech teen to keep tabs on after claiming her first ITF World Tennis Tour singles title at the age of 16.

The junior world No. 16 fought back from a set down to beat compatriot and No. 3 seed Tereza Smitkova 4-6 7-6(4) 7-5 and claim the W15 Bratislava title in just her 12th professional event and second final, having reached the W15 Sharm-El-Sheikh title match in February.

Noskova, who anchored Czech Republic’s 2019 Junior Billie Jean King Cup side that finished runners-up to USA in Lake Nona, fought back from 5-2 down in the final set to clinch the title against the former world No. 57 and follow in the footsteps of 15-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova, who has two ITF titles to her name in 2021.

“I kept a cool head,” Noskova said of her performance against Smitkova, having also recovered from a break down in the final set of her quarter-final clash with Estonia’s Elena Malygina. “I am getting used to the fact that I am becoming a specialist in turning matches around.”

There was more good news for the Czechs at W15 Monastir, where Monika Kilnarova defeated USA’s Anastasia Nefedova 2-6 6-2 6-4 for her first title in three years – and her first, of five, won on hard courts. For Nefedova, the wait for a first ITF World Tennis Tour title goes on: the 22-year-old has now reached three finals in 2021, and six in her career to date.

The W15 Sharm-El-Sheikh final was an all-Japanese affair as Sakura Hosogi beat No. 6 seed Eri Hozumi 7-5 6-2 in the final. It was a first title win for 20-year-old Hosogi, who had knocked out compatriot and top seed Ayano Shimizu in the semis.

Mai Hontama was denied the chance to claim a second title of the weekend for Japan as Korea, Rep’s No. 3 seed Su Jeong Jang recovered from a set down to win the W15 Antalya final, 4-6 6-3 6-2. The Koreans swept the titles in Turkey, as Na-Lae Han and So-Ra Lee claimed the doubles crown.

France’s Marine Partaud celebrated success on home soil after defeating Spanish 18-year-old Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4 6-3 to claim the W15 Gonesse title. It was the first trophy win for the 26-year-old in four years and her fourth title overall, all on clay.
