Obituary: Amanaki Latu (Fakakovikaetau)

The ITF is saddened to learn of the passing of Amanaki Latu (Fakakovikaetau), Secretary of Tennis Tonga, on 1 October.

Amanaki had been involved with Tonga Tennis Association for over 30 years and was a true pioneer for the federation, the Tonga Sports Association and the Tonga National Olympic Committee (TASANOC).

At the time of his death he was the President of the Tonga National Badminton Association and Vice President of the Tonga Tennis Federation.

He was Chef de Mission to numerous sporting events including the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, 2011 New Caledonia Pacific Games, 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games at both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

His contribution to Tonga Tennis and the wider sport has been immense and unparalleled in Tonga, as has been his leadership in TASANOC.

He was a central tennis figure across Pacific Oceania and will be sorely missed.
