Preview: 2024 ITF Masters (50-60) World Team Championships
The ITF Masters World Team Championships returns to Mexico for the first time since 2010 and for only the second time in the history of the competition this weekend.
The fiesta of high-quality tennis will kick-off in Mexico City on 28 April as the ITF Masters World Team Championships – the annual showpiece event for players in the 50+, 55+ and 60+ categories – gets underway.
The World Team Championships, which conclude on 3 May, will see a total of 101 teams – from nations in every region across the globe – compete in the Mexican capital to become World Champions. Notable nations from the Central America and South America regions with teams who will participate include Costa Rica, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Peru.
This year sees the return of all the 2023 Team Cup winners. France are bidding to defend both the Austria Cup (55+) and Von Cramm Cup (60+), which they won in Lisbon last year. Meanwhile, Netherlands will return as defending champions of the Fred Perry Cup (M50+) for the first time, but will face strong competition from nations such as France, Italy, and Great Britain.
In the women's events, Italy will hope to repeat last year's triumph in the Maria Esther Bueno Cup (50+) and Maureen Connolly Cup (55+). The Alice Marble Cup (60+) sees Germany going for a three-peat after triumphing in 2022 and 2023, while USA, Italy and Netherlands will vie to dethrone the two-time reigning champions.
The ITF Masters 50-60 World Individual Championships then take place the following week, from 4 – 11 May in Mexico City. The tournament will see many of the stars from the Teams competition go for individual glory, in addition to a host of other high-ranked players.
Previous champions Eoin Collins, Helga Nauck, Gabriel Keymer and Liselot Prechtel are some of the strong contenders for the honours.
