Very soon a whopping 32 teams spanning 26 nations will battle it out to top the podium and be crowned champions at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic.

Following a host of regional qualifying events, 16 boys’ and 16 girls’ teams have secured a place at the Finals, giving themselves a shot at glory and the opportunity to be named the world’s best in the 14-and-under age category.

That is what is at stake during a true festival of junior tennis, with players from around the globe wearing their national team colours with pride, just as professional players do in Davis Cup by Rakuten and Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas – the World Cups of tennis.

To that end, when the players take to the clay courts of Prostejov from 1-6 August, they will be in excellent company and will follow in the footsteps of some lofty and esteemed competitors.

Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek, Nick Kyrgios, Marketa Vondrousova and Coco Gauff are just a few of the names to have competed at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals. The pathway and the importance of the competitions in terms of development is there for all to see.

There are some compelling storylines this year also. The boys’ team from Kazakhstan are the first from their nation to advance to the Finals of an ITF junior team competition, whether that be ITF World Junior Tennis or indeed Junior Davis or Junior Billie Jean King Cup.

Slovenia’s boys, meanwhile, are back at the Finals for the first time since 2001, while Germany’s girls’ team and the boys of South Africa return to the business end of the competition after a decade or more away. In short, it is almost time for the class of 2022 to shine brightly.
