Seven deadly wins: Madaras continues hot streak
Dragos Nicolae Madaras continued his supreme season on the ITF World Tennis Tour after securing his seventh title of 2023 this weekend.
The 25-year-old Swede, who has vocalised his intention to break the record for the most number of ITF titles in a single season this year, collected his latest tournament win at M15 Antalya after Viacheslav Bielinskyi retired five games into their final on Sunday.
The left-hander, who has a 7-2 record in finals in 2023, continued his steady progress by moving up one place in the ATP rankings to a new career-high of No. 254, having started the year at No. 331.
Madaras leads the ITF World Tennis Tour for both matches (44) and titles won this year after a prolific four-month spell. He is currently just three titles short of matching the record-breaking run of Arantxa Rus, who became the first player to collect 10 ITF World Tennis Tour titles in a single season in 2019.
Madaras’ countryman, Leo Borg, also enjoyed a victorious week, with the 19-year-old claiming the biggest title of his career – and second overall – at M25 Jakarta.
Borg, son of legendary tennis player and 11-time Grand Slam champion Bjorn, continues to make positive strides on his transition to the professional tour after a good junior career that saw him peak at No. 12 in the world in March 2021.
