São Paulo to host the 2024 ITF Beach Tennis World Cup
São Paulo, Brazil, will host the 2024 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Beach Tennis World Cup this December, the global governing body has confirmed today. This flagship annual team competition, a highlight of the ITF Beach Tennis World Tour, will take place from the 10-15 of December, and will feature the world’s best beach tennis talent.
The ITF Beach Tennis World Cup will see 16 nations compete to be crowned champions. The tournament format includes four round-robin groups of four teams each, followed by a knockout stage, all unfolding over six days. Concurrently, the ITF Beach Tennis Junior World Cup will spotlight the sports rising stars with Brazil, last year’s junior champions set to defend their title on home sand.
The event will be hosted in the city of São Paulo, accommodating over 4,000 spectators. São Paulo will also host the Sand Series São Paulo in October, adding to the city’s burgeoning reputation as a beach tennis hub.
There will also be prize money at the World Cup for the first time, at $35,000.
Last year’s final, impacted by weather conditions, ended with Italy and Brazil sharing the title, with both teams determined to claim outright victory this year. Italy secured a memorable win in the 2022 finals, triumphing in the decisive mixed doubles match. This year’s competition promises to deliver equally compelling action, with Italy and Brazil, the most successful nations in the history of the ITF Beach Tennis World Cup, once again at the forefront.
Entry and nominations forms will be distributed by the ITF through National Associations in due course.
Danilo Durante Gaino, Vice-President of the São Paulo Tennis Federation said, “We thank the Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT) for their recognition and support as well as the ITF for granting us the privilege of hosting the Beach Tennis World Cup. It is an honor to welcome athletes from all over the world to this prestigious event. We are committed to ensuring competitive, high-level competition, celebrating diversity and passion for Beach Tennis.”
Rogério Destro, Financial Director and Member of the Organising Committee for the 2024 Beach Tennis World Cup added, “We are deeply grateful for this collaboration, dedication, and trust placed in us… we count on everyone’s presence to celebrate this great achievement along with us.”
