Nineteen-year-old Finn Otto Virtanen and 21-year-old Canadian Alexis Galarneau made it a weekend to remember after both secured their first professional singles titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

Virtanen defeated Russia’s Yan Sabanin 6-3 6-0 to win the title at M15 Parnu in Estonia, while Galarneau breezed past Roberto Quiroz 6-2 6-1 to win on American soil at M15 Fayetteville.

The latter triumph marked a very welcome return to competition for Galarneau, who hadn’t played a competitive match since February. In fact, his five match-wins were his first since he reached the semi-finals at M15 Tallahassee in December 2019.

For Virtanen, the victory was a satisfying response to his defeats in his first two appearances in ITF finals at M15 Helsinki in August 2018 and at M25 Aktobe in Kazakhstan in February.

Elsewhere, Nuno Borges won his third title of the year - and the ninth of his career - after a thumping win over Belgium’s Michael Geerts in the final at M15 Quinta Do Lago.

The 23-year-old Portuguese player defeated Geerts 6-0 6-1 to continue the strong form that has seen him reach five finals since the resumption of the ITF World Tennis Tour in August.

Evan Furness made it back-to-back triumphs on the ITF World Tennis Tour after winning his second title in as many weeks at M15 Heraklion.

The 22-year-old Frenchman defeated Monaco’s Lucas Catarina 6-1 2-6 7-5 in the final to win the fifth professional singles title of his career.

Alessandro Bega won his fourth title of the year after defeating Petros Chrysochos in the final at M15 Sharm El Sheikh.

It was a 17th career title in all for the 29-year-old, who has collected three M15 titles in Sharm El Sheikh and one at M15 Cancun so far this season.
