Yao becomes Chinese No. 10 after claiming W75 Nonthaburi crown

14 Jan 2025

China's Yao Xinxin made a strong start to 2025 on the ITF World Tennis Tour after reigning supreme at W75 Nonthaburi.

The 21-year-old left hander opened the year with back-to-back appearances at the Thai tournament and, after a second-round loss in the former, made her presence felt at the second event, beating compatriot Zheng Wushuang 6-4 6-0 in the title match.

It was Yao’s second ITF singles title and the biggest of her career to date, having also won at W15 Tianjin in June 2023.

Yao leapt 56 spots in the WTA rankings as a result of her victory, climbing to a career-high No. 205 on Monday and becoming the new Chinese No. 10 in the women’s game.
