China’s Zhu Lin ended a five-match losing streak in some style, taking her first title of the year after defeating Canada’s Rebecca Marino 6-4 6-1 in the final at W60 Irapuato.

Zhu, who came into this year off the back of a triumph at the WTA 125k event in Seoul, had only won one main draw match in 2022 prior to her title-winning run in Mexico.

And with the loss of just one set in the quarter-final against Jamie Loeb, Zhu showed why she has a career-high ranking of 69. The Chinese 28-year-old proceeded to clinch the title with a victory over the in-form Marino.

Elsewhere on the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour, Junior world No. 1 Petra Marcinko scored her first professional title with a 6-4 6-1 victory as a wild card against France’s Carole Monnet in the final.

There was a second career title for Chile’s Barbara Gatica at W25 Salinas. The 25 year-old, who has been named in Chile’s team to compete in Billie Jean King Cup Americas Group I next month, defeated Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens 6-4 7-6(2) in the final.

Australia’s Jaimee Fourlis notched another title at W25 Bendigo after countrywoman Olivia Gadecki retired after the opening set. And there were wins for Celine Naef, Lucie Nguyen Tan, Madison Sieg and Mariia Tkacheva in W15 events.
