What does an ITF Masters Tour tournament look like?

Tournaments vary in size and can have anywhere from 50 to 500+ players competing.

Events exist in singles, doubles and mixed doubles and many tournaments offer a really good added value experience with social events that run alongside the tennis.

The ITF encourages all tournaments to offer a consolation event in singles so that players have the opportunity to play at least two singles matches.

What makes the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour different to tournaments and leagues I play at home?

The ITF World Tennis Masters Tour is an international circuit.

As such, you will likely have the opportunity to play with and against players from other nations as well as players from your home nation who may travel further to play in ITF tournaments.

In addition to this, playing on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour allows you to earn an ITF World Ranking in your age group and gender!

Am I good enough to compete at international level?

Each tournament is awarded a tournament grade by the ITF which indicates the level of tournament delivery and the playing standard you’re likely to encounter. The entry tier of tournaments are ITF Masters Tour ‘MT100’ where players are largely of an intermediate, club standard. The top tier of events include the 'MT700’ and ‘MT1000’ grade will feature more elite level players. Some of the very best players at these events may have formerly played on the professional circuits. These players are likely to be the seeded players. If you’re new to the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour, we recommend entering a tournament at MT100, MT200 or MT400 level in the first instance.

What do you get for winning matches or a whole tournament?

Several things.

Firstly, you are testing yourself against your peers, so winning is either inner satisfaction or a chance to pump the air!

Secondly, tournaments normally award trophies / medals to champions.

Thirdly, all results on the Masters Tour contribute towards your World Tennis Number, which ranks you in tennis nationally and globally.

Fourthly – and this applies to whether you win or not – the Masters Tour is for people who love playing tennis all the way through life and you have the opportunity to experience, enjoy and contribute to the social camaraderie that goes with that.

What formats are played on the Masters Tour?

Singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.

You can choose what event you play at a tournament.

If you’re new to competing on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour or you’ve not played singles in a long period, you may wish to enter doubles and/or mixed doubles events to introduce yourself to the tour. If you don’t have a partner, contact the Tournament Director who will be able to help you either before the tournament, or when you’re on site.

Can I compete in one Masters tournament or do I need to commit to several?

This is your Tour and your choice.

There is no pressure on how many tournaments you play. Once you register for free you become a member of the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour global community.

When the time is right for you, please enter a tournament. Hopefully you will enjoy it and want to play again.
