Overview

The Guanajuato Open XIX edition is an international women's tennis tournament that takes place in the City of Irapuato, Gto at the Santa Margarita Golf Club. 

The tournament began as a national championship in 2006 and it successfully went international the following year. For its third edition in 2008 it was already a offering $25,000 USD in prize money. Under the auspices of the Mexican Tennis Federation, $60,000 USD were offered in 2022 and 2023. With this same support, in 2024 prize money grew further to $100,000 USD as well as the spectator attendance rate, which every year equals to ten thousand people onsite during the week of the tournament. 

This tournament has witnessed the talent of great players from different countries from the five continents: America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Tennis players from more than 60 nations have had a presence in this competition. 

The Guanajuato Open has seen talented players who are currently champions in the WTA, such as Naomi Osaka (Japan) who participated in the 2014 edition and in 2019 was ranked No. 1 of the world, Caroline García (France) 20th, Xin Yu Wang (China) 32th, Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic ) 35th, Lin Zhu (China) 37th, Tajtana Maria (Germany) 56th, as well as Laura Pous Tio (Spain), Yaroslava Shvedoda (Kazakhstan), Timea Babos (Hungary), Kiki Bertens (Netherlands), Kristina Mladenova (France), Aleksandra Krunic (Serbia) and Chanelle Scheepers (South Africa), among other notable athletes.
