The first ITF World Tennis Tour tournament for women in Liepaja took place in January 2020 with a W15 category tournament where the title was claimed by the local girl Elza Tomase. Afterwards, Liepaja got the possibility to organize an ITF W25 in 2021 where the title went to Daniela Vismane from Latvia. 2022 saw the event elevated once again to a higher category - ITF W60.
The ITF W60 2022 tournament was won by Emma Navarro from USA who, at the time of writing, has a WTA Top 100 ranking.
This year, the "Liepaja Open" will be again be contested in the ITF W60 category.
